Naturalness
There is no supernatural entity or force. All supernatural phenomena serve only to explain the unknown or to exert control and manipulation.
From the very beginning people explained unknown phenomena through supernatural beings. For a person living in a cave it was impossible to understand a storm, fire or a flood in any other way than as the manifestation of a deity. As society developed the gods became more and more sophisticated. They were no longer only rulers of the elements but gods of fertility, war, harvest and prosperity appeared as well. They served not only as explanations of events but also as tools from whom blessings were sought.
Supernatural entities also helped people explain the greatest unknowns. The origin of the universe, of humankind and of everything around us was attributed to their will. Phenomena that we might otherwise mistakenly see as coincidence or incomprehensible events were explained as the divine hand or the intervention of fate.
Supernatural belief makes it easier to accept the end
The supernatural also played an important role in accepting death, whether one’s own or that of loved ones. It is surely easier to live with the conviction that this life is not the only attempt and that something else, new and unknown, awaits us afterward.
Faith is beneficial for the individual, but it can be dangerous for society.
Faith arose as an attempt to make life easier and to find explanations for phenomena that were not yet understood. People began to share their faith and beliefs with one another, spreading them through shamans, later priests, and gradually the first religions were formed. Over time these transformed into the large organizations we know as churches.
Religions in the beginning often carried the good idea of spreading ideals and doing good. Churches, however, frequently modified their original meaning according to their own aims. They began to command through dogmas what the right faith was and how one must behave. If a group disagreed the church split into different branches, each promoting its own truth about the order of the world. This led and still leads to conflicts, discrimination and segregation of people according to belief. At times the very enforcement of the “correct” interpretation of faith caused the decline of society and the halting of its development, as during the period of church dominance in Europe or in the current interpretation of Islam in Afghanistan.
Therefore it can be said that faith helps the individual understand the unknown, but its grouping into organized forms often leads to the loss of its original meaning and to stagnation or decline of society.
The church as the representative of religion in many cases does good, but often focuses mainly on its own communities while others are neglected. Yet society should not be closely tied to religion. The role of religions should be to provide support and spiritual guidance to the existing society, not to interfere directly in its functioning.
Nothing is not the supernatural.
Nothing is not a thinking being or an entity with intent. Nothing is emptiness. If we were to assign it boundaries or properties, it would cease to be emptiness.
